Volkswagen Transporter - the first minivan and the second civil car Volkswagen after Volkswagen Käfer. Minibus, which became one of the most recognizable symbols of the hippy era.
The idea of creating Transporter belongs to the Dutch importer of Volkswagen Ben Ponu (de: Ben Pon senior). On April 23, 1947, Ben Pont saw a Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg, the auto platform, built by workers at the Zhuk plant. Pon decided that, at the time of the revival of Europe after World War II, a car for transporting small loads could become very popular. When he offered his sketches to General Director Heinrich Nordhoff (de: Heinrich Nordhoff), he agreed to translate Ben's idea into reality. Transporter presented on November 12, 1949 at an official press conference.
